Most of what you lived this year will be forgotten by next month.

Think about how much happens in a single year of your life. Thousands of experiences. Hundreds of insights and lessons. Dozens of meaningful relationships and projects.

Without a systematic review process, 99% of that value is lost.

The years blur together. The lessons fade. And you end up repeating the same patterns, wondering why nothing changes.

Life in Perspective will show you how to reclaim that value — and use it to shape the next chapter.

Why Habits Never Worked for Me

In this short video, I explain why daily routines and journaling never stuck for me — and the once-a-year practice that actually changed my life.

A Proven Process for Reflecting on Your Life

At the core of the book is the ARC Method — a three-stage annual life review process refined over 15 years and taught to over 1,000 students worldwide.

Appreciate the Past

Gather vivid, specific memories of what went well and what you’re grateful for.

Reflect on the Present

Look for patterns, themes, and insights that reveal what you’ve learned and what matters most to you.

Create the Future

Turn what you’ve discovered into an intentional vision and plan for what comes next.

Tiago Forte

Hi, I’m Tiago Forte

Nearly 20 years ago, I sat on a Brazilian beach at dawn with a notebook, trying to make sense of my life. A few weeks earlier, a local drug trafficker had pressed a gun to my chest. That encounter forced a question I couldn’t ignore: What am I doing with the time I have?

That morning, I listed everything I was grateful for from the past year. By the time I finished, I noticed I was happiest when traveling, teaching, and learning. That one insight changed the course of my life. I didn’t know it then, but I’d just completed my first annual life review.

I’m the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Building a Second Brain and The PARA Method, with over 500,000 copies sold in 25+ languages. My work has been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Harvard Business Review, and more.

Completing my annual life review remains the single most important project I undertake every year. The quality of everything else in my life hinges on the depth of honesty I reach in my reviews. I’ve taught the Annual Life Review to over 1,000 students worldwide since 2019, and I can’t wait to share the best of what I’ve learned with you.

“Life in Perspective reminds us that the most important leadership begins with leading ourselves. Tiago Forte offers more than a thoughtful framework—he provides a practical annual rhythm for gaining clarity, making wiser decisions, and living with greater intention. If you want your next year to be different, start by seeing your life more clearly.”

Michael Hyatt New York Times Bestselling Author of Your Best Year Ever

“As a therapist, I’ve watched too many people drift through life on autopilot until a crisis forces them to question their path. Tiago Forte offers a healthier way. Life in Perspective gives you a proactive strategy to step back each year, build real self-awareness, and create the life you actually want to live.

A Different Kind of Annual Review

If you’ve tried annual reviews before and found them draining, this book will change that. The approach in Life in Perspective challenges conventional thinking about reflection:

Intuition over analysis

Instead of dissecting your life like a spreadsheet, you’ll learn to follow the signals your body and emotions are already giving you.

Pleasure over sacrifice

This should feel like a conversation with your best friend, not a performance review. When something is genuinely enjoyable, you don’t need willpower to sustain it.

Concrete over abstract

No vague resolutions. You’ll work with real artifacts — photos, journal entries, calendar events — that ground your reflection in what actually happened.

Appreciation over criticism

Most reviews ask “What went wrong?” This one starts with “What went surprisingly well?”

“Curiosity isn’t just about exploring the world. It’s about exploring your own experience with enough honesty that new possibilities can emerge. Clear and humane, Life in Perspective offers a rare kind of technology: one that helps you think more clearly about yourself.

Anne-Laure Le Cunff founder of Ness Labs and author of Tiny Experiments

“Most people plan their next year without ever really understanding their last one. Tiago Forte gives you the method for closing that gap. Life in Perspective takes something almost nobody does consistently and turns it into one of the most powerful, repeatable practices available for building a life you believe in.

“Every great life needs a feedback loop. Tiago Forte has designed the best Annual Review method I’ve ever seen, and this book hands you his complete system. The highest-leverage hours you’ll spend all year.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an annual life review?

An annual life review is a structured practice of reflecting on the past year, understanding the present, and intentionally shaping the future. Think of it as a deep life review, not a performance evaluation.

How is this different from Building a Second Brain and The PARA Method?

While Building a Second Brain and The PARA Method focus on organizing external knowledge and projects, Life in Perspective is about internal reflection and making sense of your life experiences. It’s the vital connection between what you know and who you are becoming.

I have taken the Annual Review course. Is this the same content?

Not exactly. While the book covers the same core ARC Method, it goes much deeper into the philosophy, science, and personal stories behind the practice. It also introduces new concepts and practices that weren’t part of the course. Think of the book as the definitive, expanded guide that gives you a richer understanding of why and how the process works, plus new tools to take your practice further.

Do I need to have read Tiago’s other books first?

No. Life in Perspective is a completely standalone book. Whether you’re brand new to Tiago’s work or a longtime reader, this book will meet you where you are.

What formats is the book available in?

Hardcover, ebook, and audiobook.
